Four propeller driven engine cargo aircraft, developed by Consolidated Aircraft Company and first built in 1940. Design to be heavy cargo aircraft with heavy payload, higher flight ceiling and very long flight range.
The name XB-27 was initially assigned to the Consolidated XB-27 Avenger, a heavy cargo aircraft developed in 1940. However, after the project was canceled, the designation was later reused for the Martin XB-27, a high-altitude bomber concept in the early 1940s. This reuse of aircraft designations was not uncommon, especially when an earlier project was scrapped before reaching mass production.
