The MIG-26 is the sixth aircraft in the 'Alternate Reality Cold War' series. The MIG-26, just like its insperation the MIG-25, is a dedicated interceptor built for the Soviet Union that could destroy America's Mach 2 bombers (i.e XB-70). The MIG-25 was extremely fast and sacraficed maneuverability to achieve this. The MIG-26 does not. The MIG-26 is a balanced aircraft that is capable of intercepting smaller fighters such as the F-6 but performs much less efficiantly against newer fighters such as the F-113. Back-story: The Soviets have built a selection of extremely capable fighters that are proven still deadly in Vietnam with their decisive victory. Another threat however rises quickly in the west. Newer and faster bombers that have the capability of flying faster than mach 2 are developed. In order to counter this, The Soviets build a fighter that can fly fast and have weapons that shoot far. The MIG-26 is introduced and proves to be extremely efficiant in the role of being an interceptor but falls short of being a dogfighter.
