Lockheed XFV-1
The Lockheed XFV was experimental VTOL aircraf made by the Lockheed Corporation during the 1950s for United States navy as a means of defending convoys from air attack.
The XFV came about due to the Navy's proposal in 1948 for an aircraft that could take of and land vertically off of the decks of conventional ships. Lockheed and Convair both sought to gain the contract, except in 1950 the requirement changed to that of a research aircraft that would eventually lead to a VTOL fighter. In April 19 of 1951, Two prototypes where ordered under the designation XFO-1. Once Lockheed was awarded the contract, the aircrafts designation was changed fro. XFO-1 to XFV-1.
Notes
If you want to take off vertically, you need to manually tip it back 90°, then give it a gyro, as even if it had a gyro, gyros go crazy if they point straight up and down, so it would nee to be in the proper position before hand.
Also, if you do have to plane start off sitting up, that may cause the gauges to have problems (specifically, the one that shows if the plane if level).
