Use VTOL to rotate the gun. Use AG 1 to deploy parachute.
As you can see, the nose cone really makes all the difference. The angled block you were using added too much drag, but the nose cone fixes all that. I obviously added weapons too. Paint can make or break your plane. A bad paint job makes the plane look silly, but a good one can make it stylish. I also used a technic called "rounded wintips", and that makes the wings look curvy and sleek.
