Variants

Brief History

In alternative universe

1945
In 1945 Germany, USA and United Kingdom already had military aircrafts with innovative, jet propulsion in production. Soviet Air Force lacked such tech. Being certain that jet-powered aircrafts will soon dominate in the sky they formed requirements for a fighter plane with jet propulsion.
On 24 of April 1946 first two designs performed maiden flights. That were I-300 (MiG-9) and Yak-Jumo (Yak-15). two-engined I-300 had greater max speed, range, firepower and was well suited for bomber interception while Yak-15 was slower but still a good dogfighter, with performance close to its predecessor, Yak-3. Both of them entered service despite some design flaws, which were fixed with time.
In beginning of 1947 MiG bureau presented one of experimental variants of MiG-9 to Air Force. It had two 37-mm N-37 autocannons placed in wing roots to prevent engine damage from gas ingestion, three RD-20 jet engines instead of two on basic one in order to improve speed and rate of climb and greater wing and tailplane surfaces to preserve wing loading and enhance overall performance on high altitude.
After several test flights (one of which almost resulted in a crash due to incorrect setup of aircraft trim) it was finally approved for production in March of that year. It entered service as a high-altitude fighter, marked as I-303 for the number of month and engine quantity.
Unfortunately, complexity of modifications comparing to original craft and limited production of jet engines did not allowed this design to be mass produced. Soviet Air Force received only 6 machines out of 20 by the end of 1947.
It left military service in summer of 1948, right after approval of newer design, MiG-15. None of the vehicles saw combat. 4 of them were scrapped and remaining 2 preserved in the museum.

Controls

Standard Flight controls...
Throttle - Throttle
Brake - Brake
TRIM - TRIM
VTOL Down - Flap control
AG1 - WEP
AG6 - Nav lights
AG8 - close/open canopy

Takeoff and Landing:

  • Takeoff
    1) Full Throttle
    2) Pull Up on 240 km/h approx
    3) Swiggity Swooty on dat booty
    4) Perfect
  • Landing
    1) Cut Throttle
    2) Slow down to 320 km/h
    3) ...
    4) Touchdown at 240 km/h approx
    5) *Out of scene applauses*

Additional notes

  • Top speed:
    1000 m ~ 800 Km/h
    5 000 m ~ 1080 Km/h
  • Stall speed : ~ 210 km/h
  • Cruise speed : ~ 540 km/h
  • WEP boosts dynamic performance
  • For maximum lift use Takeoff Flap position (-0.25>VTOL>-0.5)
  • Combat Flap position does improves maneuverability for a bit (VTOL>-0.25)
  • Landing Flap position best used as an airbrake (VTOL<-0.5)
  • Aircraft looses speed pretty fast in active dogfight
  • Flight with a single operational engine is possible
  • Be careful when diving, pitch authority decreases greatly on speeds above 700 km/h
  • More or less important flight info can be found in craft instructions
  • Guns have simulated spacing (HET-Solid)
  • There are several cameras (Pilot POV and holosight)
  • Writing on the left: three hounds
  • Writing on the right (rough translation): "Not the beer ruins lives, water does."
  • VR compatibility unknown
  • Floppy Holosight
  • Trim is fine on this one

Cockpit instruments

Where:
- Upper Right - Vertical speed (m/s)
- Upper Middle - NavBall
- Upper Left - Speed (TAS;km/h)
- Lower Right - Angle of Slip
- Lower Middle - Heading
- Lower Left - Altitude (3 indicators; in meters)

Don't know If it's something to do with the plane or not but on the 714 part version, the engines just won't turn on or work. So could you possibly be able to fix it?
