The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat, twin-jet, straight-wing ground-attack aircraft, powered by two General Electric TF34-GE-100 turbofan engines, developed by the Fairchild-Republic company in the early 1970s at the request of the USAF to provide close air support to ground troops attacking main battle tanks, armored vehicles, etc. It's named after the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II-era fighter-bomber effective at attacking ground targets, but commonly known as the "Warthog" or "Hog"
