The NI-1020 was created when the Snowstone Republic needed an interceptor capable of taking off from a carrier or from an airbase, shooting down it's target, and returning. Since Snowstone had some old J-8IIs, they heavily modified them into these interceptors.
turn off AG8 to disable gyro stabilizer

Yes it is armed with a gun but it's "unarmed" because it does not yet have the missiles intended for it.
