The aircraft, LX-ECV, was an 11 year old Boeing 747-200F and was first delivered to Cargolux in 1980 before going inter service with China Airlines Cargo in 1985 and having it's registration changed to B-198.

The later crash of China Airlines Cargo Flight 358
On December 29, 1991, B-198, or China Airlines Cargo Flight 358 crashed shortly after takeoff after the No.3 and No.4 engine detached from the aircraft, ending the lives of all 5 on board.
