Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
– Edgar Allan Poe, 1845
Variant: SkyCorps Raven A Block 40 (introduced in January 12, 2018)
Weapons Load-out: Multirole
Introduction
The SkyCorps Raven is a Veridisian twin-engine, single-seat, stealth multirole fighter aircraft designed and developed by SkyCorps for the New Millennium Fighter Program. It is the second fifth-generation fighter procured by both the Veridisian Air Force and Navy.
It is one of the two out of five proposals by SkyCorps that were validated for the NMFP. However due to the development of the SkyCorps Hawk which could further add expenses to the project, development for a prototype was postponed until late 2001. It made a successful first flight on August 2, 2007 and was introduced into Veridisian military service on November 27, 2015.
Designed as a multirole fighter, it implements electronic warfare and ISR capabilities suitable for a fifth-generation fighter. It is currently one of the most technologically advanced and superior Veridisian fighters ever developed, surpassing its predecessor the SkyCorps Hawk and the older VerdAir Pegasus. It incorporates one of the most advanced software programs developed for the Veridisian military to support one of the most complicated missions and an integrated AI developed by Millennium Science School for the Raven's flight control, fly-by-wire, radar, and weapon systems. In 2023, an unmanned, AI prototype variant of the fighter jointly developed by Millennium and the Veridisian Space Agency was successfully tested.
The aircraft has been exported to several countries due to its cheaper cost as oppose to its more expensive and slowly produced predecessor, though 1,200 Ravens are currently used by both the Veridisian Air Force and Navy. Part of this is because of the vulnerabilities of the AI system which can be compromised by an anomalous entity or organization if ever given the capability of hijacking the aircraft through means of sophisticated technology or unexplained supernatural phenomenon. One such example was during Operation Diamond Spear, when a Raven conducting a ground-attack mission over the Abydos Desert was compromised and hijacked by an anomalous entity.
Despite this, they have been used in numerous military conflicts around the Globe, more particularly in the Middle East. It first sought combat action in 2019, when a Syrian MiG-23 was shot down by a Raven.
