AMX ELC bis

47.9k Phantomium  7.7 years ago

Developed from 1957 through 1961 to provide French airborne troops with an air-transportable vehicle that could engage heavy tanks. The vehicle mounted a 90-mm gun and had a very low silhouette. The two crew members were seated in the turret, which could turn through 360 degrees, but only when the vehicle was not moving. Variants with different guns were planned. Only one prototype was manufactured. The vehicle never saw service.

Controls:
W A S D for powering up and steering (Pitch and Roll for mobile)
AG 3 for lights.

The tank features a powerful 90 mm gun shooting about every 11.51 seconds.
Just as the real life vehicle, it gets limited gun elevation and gun arc. 15 degrees each side, 5 degrees of gun depression/elevation.

    @BogdanX Well, it's sort of in-between.
    It is a TD as it was meant to engage heavier enemy tanks. Compared to something like the AMX 13 75 or 13 90, it was more than viable. In practice, the crew was literally crammed inside, limiting their performance.
    By that time, tanks like the AMX 30 or the Sheridan could always be modified in order to be parachuted right on the battlefield.
    Besides that, there was a serious lack of interest. Just like in the case of the AMX 50, the French government did not pursue development of indigenous tank designs. Instead, they bought all the crap that was available on the market (aka M47 Patton).

    Sekrit dokumints state that this tank can do something fishy... they didn't state what exactly is it, but it's related to the relatively low weight.

    Actually, it's turret could rotate fully. However, it could only do so on the move.
