Pacific C-20 Bottleneck
Background:
In the early 1960’s, a string of high-profile accidents involving C-15Js demonstrated a need for a new carrier-capable midsize transport aircraft. A growing military force and government dependence on foreign charters for air transport was simultaneously noticed by PR government officials. The C-20 was designed to solve both of these problems by serving as a dual use troop transport and cargo/logistics aircraft. Modular interior units allowed the aircraft to be quickly converted from cargo, to troop transport, and even to executive jet for government officials. Being carrier capable also allowed it to take over resupply and ferry missions from the carrier. The C-20 first entered service in 1965. The aircraft was received exceptionally well by the Air Force as a much needed upgrade from the aging C-15J.
