Overview
The MRNS Meiko Honma (Pennant Number SS-29-18, nicknamed as "Menma") is a Taigei-class diesel-electric attack submarine of the Monarchii Royal Navy. A next generation class of compact attack submarines. She is equipped with more lithium-ion batteries, allowing it to travel underwater longer and at higher speeds. The submarine carries advanced heavy torpedoes, as well as light underwater-launched anti-ship missiles.
History
Monarchii lore
MRNS Meiko Honma is one of the Taigei-class diesel-electric attack submarine of the Monarchii Royal Navy around 2020s. MRNS Meiko Honma was likely constructed sometime prior to the first Monarchii War; her operation record prior to the Monarchii War, however, remains unknown. At some point, she was assigned to a Monarchii Royal Navy submarine flotilla together with her other sister ships. Prior to the Monarchii War I, she was captained by Marine Major Whittaker, until at some point entering the Monarchii War I, she is now captained and operated under command of Captain Eijiro Goma.
She is equipped with lithium-ion batteries much like her predecessor class, the Oryu, Toryu and the Soryu-class submarines, making it possible for the submersible to travel longer and at higher speeds under water than conventional diesel-electric submarines. She is also armed with lethal armaments such as Type 18 heavyweight torpedo, a further development and the successor of the Type-89 heavyweight torpedo, capable for blow off half the ship with devastating damage. True submarine hunter, will cause a lot of trouble for the enemy.
Monarchii War I
Meiko Honma was involved in Monarchii War I and her class was intended to become an answer and counter for the MGLA's Liberty-class hunter-killer submarine, which is unofficially nicknamed as "MGLA U-Boat". She was also used to transport troops and arms to the Monarchii Royal Army in Krakabloa, and during those operations, she was badly damaged. She was reported missing prior to the post-Monarchii War I. She along with all of the ships on her class including almost of the Monarchiians and her captain has mysteriously disappeared and nobody knows why. The Rapture? Mass abductions? Spontaneous combustion? Who knows?!
Pre-Monarchii War II
By some point, MRNS Meiko Honma was managed to reunite back with the other Monarchiians along with the few troops who were also mysteriously vanished. Captain Goma was declared "Missing In Action" during that unknown phenomenon before he and the rest of his crew members in the sub finally returned and reunited back with the last remaining Monarchiians who were survived.
Monarchii War II
As the Monarchii War II occured, Meiko Honma was deployed and participated in the war to served the Monarchii loyalist forces and the alliance to fight against the reformist. As a Taigei-class attack submarine, with her small size, high speed, powerful armaments, and large oxygen supply, it is enough to making her a true underwater hunter.
Notable crews:
- Marine Major Whittaker - Former commanding officer prior to Monarchii War.
- Captain Eijiro Goma - Current commanding officer of MRNS Meiko Honma.

Trivia
- The ship namesake was named after a character with the same name from Anohana.
- Not only that, the submarine's nickname also shares the same nickname with the character (Menma).
- The hull number is referencing Meiko's birthday.
- The original pennant number of the submarine is SS-189, the hull number shows number 189, which referencing Meiko's birthday at September 18 (18 is the date and number 9 is known to be the month September).
- However, as the "M-War II version" has been released, the pennant number is now retconned into SS-29-18 to match the other Monarchii ships pennant number formatting. SS is a designation for Submarine/Attack Submarine, number 29 refers to "Type-29" which is a reference to the designation number of the Taigei-class submarine in real-life (29SS), and number 18 is the pennant number of the submarine plus referencing Meiko's birthday which fell at date 18.
- The submarine motto herself was actually the quote of the character herself in the anime, but with some changes.
- The actual original quote is "Even if I'm dead, I want everyone to get along!".
- In the Monarchii storyline, the ships might shares a same traits and inspiration from both Indonesian Whiskey-class attack submarine KRI Pasopati and US escort destroyer USS Eldridge.
- Much like the Pasopati, Meiko Honma was participated in a large scale military operation during the Monarchii War (despite off-screen and was never mentioned before), inspired from how Pasopati make her action debut in the real life Operation Trikora.
- The disappearance of Meiko Honma and the rest of her ships in class, is inspired from the USS Eldridge and the infamous conspiracy about the Philadelphia experiment. Both vessels are rumoured to experiencing an event that is beyond reason and mysterious. But unlike USS Eldridge, Meiko Honma's disappearance is by an unknown reason and really hard to guess why, plus it's gone together along with the rest of the fleets and platoons, not because of an experiment. And so the submarine is literally gone without trace, unlike the Eldridge which is said to be teleported in one place into the other place.
- Her original debut during the First Monarchii War was off-screen.
- The current captain of MRNS Meiko Honma, Captain Eijiro Goma was inspired and a reference to Captain Etajima Goro from the manga titled GATE: Weight Anchor, known to be the Season 2 of the GATE: Thus The JSDF Fought There series. But unfortunately it has never to get the anime adaptation unlike the original season 1.
- Both characters are a submarine captain. But only the difference is Captain Goro captained the older and obsolete Oyashio-class submarine, while Captain Goma captained the newer and improved Taigei-class submarine.
- Meanwhile, the former captain of MRNS Meiko Honma, Marine Major Whittaker might possibly inspired from Captain Weeker from Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.
- Unlike Whittaker, Weeker is an aircraft carrier captain who captained the OFS Kestrel Aircraft Carrier before soon in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, his position as the captain of the OFS Kestrel was succeed by Nicholas A. Andersen.
- The flag is based on the flag of Indonesian Naval Jack.
