IRL History:
This plane is based of the 1939 Belyayev DB-LK (?????? ??-??). The Belyayev DB-LK was a experimental twin boom flying wing aircraft with the wings swept forward. Belyayev tested the wings on gliders from 1934 to 1938. In 1935, the AWIAWNITO company announced a competition for a fast passenger aircraft. Belyayev participated with his team and designed a flying wing aircraft with a double fuselage. however the design was unsuccesfull and never build. (I think it would have looked similar to the Khai-3) In 1938 the demand was made to convert the aircraft into a fast long-range bomber. It was completed in 1939 with help from Tupolev. In 1940 it was showed on the Moscow Troop Parade. Test pilots noted that due to the high center of mass the plane controlled not that good but despite the weak m-78 engines the aircraft reached a top speed of 488 km/h (305 mp/h) at an altitude of 5100m (16732 feet). The plane was burned/ destroyed by the germans in 1941 when the germans invaded the soviet union.
some pictures of the Belyayev DB-LK
(the BP-2, a glider that belyayev tested in 1937)
Note: information is hard to find and different by nearly every source. Example:
Some say that it was destroyed by the soviet union itself because it was basically useless and some say that the plane was easy to handle sooooo……. Idk who to trust but this my perspective of the story^
Fictional history:
When the germans started invading the soviet union in 1941, russia was in desperate needs of bomber aircraft. The blueprints of the Belyayev DB-LK where still save even tough the plane itself was burned. Belyayev started working on a new version of the DB-LK by making it a bit smaller, with a brand new cockpit, engine structure and the wings where more straightened. In the summer of 1942 the first prototype was finished under the name of BEL-0A . The design was approved by the soviet union on February 19th 1943 with the name BEL-1 (???-1) and was actively used in the battle of Stalingrad and Moscow. Production was cancelled in 1947 when over 13.000 where build and 16 different variants. This variant is the K variant because of it's 37mm cannon installed in the nose.
After the war Belyayev began making planes for de civilian market again.
He died at the age of 91 in 1987.
(in real-life he died in 1953 at age 57)
How you can help it improve by suggesting stuff in the comments
If there is someone who speaks russian please tell me if the langauge is right 'cause i used google translate and im pretty sure that every word is spelled wrong
i wanted to make camera controlled turret but i couldn't get it to work and the bombs dont really explode (like never) so if there is someone who know how to fix the bombs pls tell me
all the question marks are russian letters, if anyone knows how to get russian letters in description than pls tell me
and if you find any bugs not mentioned above pls tell me
What now?
I’m now gonna post progress on planes at the sp discord server in simpleplane-builds.
