First flown in 1934, the Messerschmitt Bf 108 was a plane designed for both sporting and touring use. It was successful, with low fuel consumption, decent handling and good taking off and landing characteristics. During World War II, the Luftwaffe adopted the Bf 108 into its service, using it as a personnel transport and liason aircraft. This plane also paved the way for the successful Messerschmitt 109 fighter, which drew on the lessons learned and the experience gained from the development of the Bf 108.
