LNER Class C1 (large Boiler)

53.2k Tang0five  5.5 years ago

My first non-flying thingy. A train. My thanks to RailfanEthan for his advice and helpful guidance for the wheel gauge I have used here. I believe it will work with the railway mod but i can’t tell on iOS I’m afraid! For all things railway please see Railfans work it’s pretty awesome!

The pistons work too but the mirroring function screws up the right sometimes which is rather bothersome.

This build was more a proof of concept build rather than a strict replica based around the 4-4-2 C1 class (large boiler) in LNER livery.

My apologies to QingyuZhou for the timing of this build and his train challenge. It’s been sat around for a while distracting me from my main build in-progress and I wanted it posted so I can concentrate my efforts.

Controls
VTOL fully up for pistons
Throttle to move
Roll to steer

History
The C1 class was designed by Henry Ivatt and built with good old British steel at the Doncaster works between 1902 and 1910. The principal behind the design was to be a powerful free steaming engine capable of pulling the fastest and heaviest trains along the Great Northern Railway. A great example of the C1s capability was shown when one took over from a broken down A3 pulling the Flying Scotsman. Not only did it make up for time, it actually managed to arrive early! Withdrawn from service in 1950, only one of the class survives and is part of the national railway museum on display in County Durham.

Amazing build man, this maybe one of the train that actually have pistons and coupling rods that work on mobile.

Thanks @Badplanesdotnet those wheels/pistons took aaaages to get working. Pistons are not 100% accurate - couldn’t get it to work in the actual position.
