Carid model 508 (2022)
The Carid P.19 (Rhinemaiden 508 before unified designation sequence) is a twinjet fighter aircraft used by the Weat during the opening stages of the Cold War.
VR-capable cockpit. Don't rant.
Development and Design
In 1947, senior designers at Rhinemaiden bureau started a jet fighter project for the next decade using multiple two jet engines of different origins. Seeking not being an escort of Rhinemaiden's bombers or an attack aircraft, designers and engineers pursued a new design based on seized German engineering (Durin 475, Rhinemaiden's old name. Not Kreide as it was not pursued to service, but it is still named after a mythological character from Norse mythology). The 475, which it was based had straight wings. It was replaced by swept wings, except for the rudder for speed and the malcolm hood canopy has been replaced by a bubble canopy.
The product, Rhinemaiden 508, made her first flight at March 15, 1948 at a Danish airfield.
Operational History
Sold to Australia and allied countries, it served the Korean War, entering at late 1951. Its speed had a serious problem on the battlefield relegating it to the attack role. The addition of reheats was introduced and the variant entered service in middle 1952 shown its true battle capability.
It had also served on Suez Crisis before being retired on 1966.
