The Douglas PA-19 was a design proposal to find and make a new role for the failed XB-19 bomber, which Douglas proposed for the PA-19 for it been an ultra long range airliner that can reach distances from San Fransisco to Tokyo. This was achived by having an extension pod that could hold thousands of gallons of fuel.

Later on, unfortunately it was largely unpractical and the design was simply top big, so Douglas abandoned the XB-19 project and the PA-19 proposal altogether in favor of a another airliner instead, which was the DC-8 jet airliner in the upcoming 8 years.
