P-80/F-80 Shooting Star
With the F-35b being offically activated soon i decided to celabrate with anouther of Lockheed Martins achivments! The P-80 was develped in 1943, but was not combat ready in time to fly a single sortie in WWII. In 1947 the national security act was signed, creating the United States Air Force, which switched the P-80 to F-80. However, in the Korean War the F-80 did not fair well. Depending on who you ask (Americans of Russians) the F-80 only shot down a total of 5 or 6 MiG-15's. The swept wing tech. Was a great improvment over the F-80's straight wings, so the MiG-15 was 70mph faster than the F-80. It was soon replaced by the F-86 and was overshadowed. This version is fitted for bomber escort with wingtip fuel tanks for longer range. It can also carry 2x1000lb bombs for ground attack. This is the second plane of my super-realalistic series! Enjoy!!!
