Swedish Aircraft Industries' (S.A.I) leap into the fighter market was a surprising one. The young company primarily built export trainers and light transports. The company's first fighter, while highly capable and modern, was little more than a 21st Century Draken. The second attempt never even made it beyond prototype. The Skylärka (skylark) is SAI's latest attempt, and is a major project. It represents Sweden's first real 5 gen fighter, and is set to reach production status by 2027. Unit cost: $ 82.5 million per jet.
