Designed by Dr. Julius von Berg, the Aviatik D.I, sometimes known as the Berg fighter, was an attempt to produce a modern fighter for the Austro-Hungarian military. The fighter proved to be a capable design, but issues with the synchronizing gear, as well as structural issues with Lohner-built examples, would tarnish it's reputation.
