The B-17 represented a huge step foward in aviation. The Flying Fortress, as it was called by the press, carried no pess than 11 M2 50 caliber machine guns. It was more than capable of taking huge amounts of battle damage, even surviving getting rammed. These aircraft were responsible for the daytime pounding of Nazi occuiped Europe, and after the end of the war, it soldiered on in search and rescue, dropping small boats to help ztranded pilots and sailors. AG1+VTOL: Bomb bay AG2: jettison bombs AG5+ VTOL: Flaps AG8+VTOL: landing gear down is to deploy bomb bay, flaps, and to stow gear.
