Design
The Santa Cluz is a twin-tail monoplane capable of performing different roles. Perhaps one of it's features are the retractable float and landing gear, which is considered very innovative, and is well-liked by test pilots during flights, therefore adding versatility and capability to be launched in bodies of water.
Operational History
The Foreign Aircraft Evaluation Division first flew the test aircraft at 1948. During ground and air tests, pilots noted the excellent performance of the aircraft, particularly the handling, speed and its landing gear.
However the aircraft was eaened notoriety for being hard to brake while landing, earning the nickname Miss Unbrakeable from the test pilot.
The aircraft was tested as a high-speed liaison, schnellbomber, twin-seat light bomber and twin-sear fighter.
It was accepted for service mid-1949 as a multi-role aircraft, with contracts for 50 aircraft and was retired until 1954.
