Ace Combat Universe

The Gyges-class aerial warship is a class of powerful aerial warships designed to support Aigaion-class heavy command cruisers.

In the Strangereal contunuity, Gyges-class aerial warships were developed by the Eastern Faction during the Estovakian Civil War but were only first deployed during the Emmeria-Estovakia War. In the Infinity universe, multiple Gyges units were deployed by the USEA Federation during the USEAn War, with a large number of them being destroyed during Operation Whale Hunt.

The Gyges were air-to-air defense airships manufactured by Estovakia for the Aerial Fleet. Their main purpose was to shoot down enemy aircraft at close range that threatened the P-1112 Aigaion or P-1113 Kottos. Six colossal engines powered each Gyges aerial warship, but their energy source remains unclear. Armed with multiple turrets and missile launchers, the Gyges were deadly matches for any enemy aircraft who got close to them.

SP 'Universe'

In Compliance with the Unrealistic Arms Ban treaty, Skypark made Several refits of the Gleipnir Type Aerial Warships, while AWs mid-construction had there specifications changed to reflect to new strategy. As such, a new AW was needed to defend the now vulnerable Gleipnirs. Development of a AW with air defense was initiated, and within a relatively short amount of time, the first Gyges Class was built. Sporting six anti air guns with AI assisted fire control, and numerous anti-aircraft missiles, they would form Gleipnir Task Forces, with consists of a minimum of eight vessels in an octagonal formation, several miles in each direction away from the Gleipnir, to give maximum defense of the AW. They also can be organized in Aerial Action Groups, which are the same as a Gleipnir Task force, but minus the AW in the center.
