Spanair S.A. was a Spanish airline, with its head office in the Spanair Building in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Barcelona. Until 2009, it was a subsidiary of the SAS Group; the same parent company in control of Scandinavian Airlines and held slightly under 20% of the company. Spanair provided a scheduled passenger network within Spain and Europe, with an extension to West Africa. Worldwide charters were also flown for tour companies. Its main hub was Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, with focus cities at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport and Palma de Mallorca Airport. The airline had 3,161 employees and was a Star Alliance member from 2003 until its demise on 27 January 2012.

Out of the 19 A320-200’s in Spanair service, EC-IPI was one of them. Having been delivered in June of 2003, it continued providing Spanair service until the airline went bankrupt.

The aircraft was built in June of 2003, is 16.7 years old (at the end of its life), and was tested at Toulouse with test registration F-WWDP.
The aircraft had been in service in its life with:
- Spanair from June 2003-February 2012 with the registration EC-IPI,
- ILFC from February 2012-March 2013 with the registration EI-EUL,
- Shaheen Air from March 2013-August 2018 with the registration AP-BLK
- AerCap from August 2018-January 2020 as OE-IHA
The aircraft had been scrapped at Tarbes–Lourdes–Pyrénées Airport (LDE/LFBT) at January 2020, marking the end of 16.7 years of service.
