*Armor*
- Kabuto composite.
- Dou IV ERA on sides of hull and turret designed to provide protection against tandem Heat and 120mm APFSDS.

*Defensive capablities*
-The frontal armor has proven effective defeating the 120mm APFSDS round fired from the L55 gun.
-Defense against incoming missiles is provided by a hard and soft kill anti-missile defense system.
-a millimeter band radar system mounted on the turret is capable of operating as a Missile Approach Warning system (MAWS). the vehicles computer can triangulate incoming projectiles, warn the crew and fire Visual and Infrared Screening Smoke (VIRSS) grenades which can block optical, infrared, and radar signatures. It also tracks and fires the hard kill system to destroy incoming munitions.
*Fire-control system and optics*
-The Type 2 is equipped with an advanced fire-control system (FCS) linked to an Extremely High Frequency radar system deployed on frontal arc of turret, along with a traditional laser rangefinder, and crosswind sensor. This system is capable of "lock-on" mode, which can acquire and track specific targets up to a range of 9.8km (6.1 miles) using a thermographic camera. This allows the crew to fire accurately while moving as well as engage low flying aircraft.

-POF K4.0 120mm L55 autoloading cannon w/40 rds capable of firing at up to 10 rds per minute.

-self sharpening APFSDS
-multi-purpose HEAT effective against personnel, lightly armed and unarmed targets as well as low flying helicopters.
-MSTAM fire and forget top attack anti-tank munition.

-.50 cal RWS that also doubles as commanders hunter-killer sight.
