The Messerschmitt bf-109 was a WW2 fighter, used by the German Luftwaffe. The pilots of these planes quickly learned that their fuel injected engines could easily do negative g maneuvers, while the Spitfire, with its carburetor, could not. You can actually hear the engine of the Spitfire cutout during a negative g maneuver in the opening scene of the Battle of Britain.
