Grumman F4F-3S Wildcat Floatplane prototype
This was a never produced fighter bomber floatplane drawn up by Grumman in late 1944 and never got beyond the sketch art stage. Equipped with prototype rocket pods, and quad wing mounted browning 50. cal machine guns. Powered by a Pratt and Wittney 2700 double wasp engine turning duel counter rotating propellers. This engine would later go on to be used in the F4U- 4 corsair fighter in early 1945 which helped win the war with its unique inverted gull-wing design and sloped back cockpit. This flying fish was intended for a multitude of different rolls, whether as a short or long distance reconnaissance plane, or maybe as a fighter bomber to strike important targets in the liberation effort in the islands of the pacific on the way to the Japanese homeland. Unfortunately it was scrapped before any production models could be flight tested, and all we have now is those concecpt sketches on the internet. -Based on F4f879s F4F-3s "wildcatfish released 1.1 years ago
