Nissan 300 ZX Turbo (Z31)

Special thanks to Edensk for helping develop the new Transmission system.

Special thanks to DPain for his Manual Stick which proved easy to modify to my needs.

Special thanks to CyberBlood for helping with inputs for the gauges!

And finally credit to Juanfly For the Rim Rotators.

The Nissan 300zx Turbo Z31, had this car in mind for a while. As usual I often try to push the functionality of my builds further when possible only this time I needed some help. I theorized that my previous manual transmission system could be largely simplified into one engine with FT.

Sure enough I was able to get Edensk's help and he concocted just the formula I needed! Knowing the limitations of a VTOL based system I opted for a selectedWeapon based system instead. This allows for more than just 5 gears to be used with one input. I even managed to figure out a reverse gear!

With SuperTT suggesting I make a more detailed interior I decided it would be worth the part count, and it certainly was.

Features

  • New Manual Transmission system: Switch gears by switching weapons!

  • Moving Gear Shifter, corresponded to each gear

  • Functional Suspension system: Mcpherson at the front, Semi Trailing arms in the back, both with Anti-Roll Bars

  • Detailed Interior: Not the most detailed out there, but it has the essentials, including a moving gear stick!

Looks and drives great! I never seen anyone done that transmission system before. Still prefer the VTOL slider ones I think

i think the middle line for the hood is a bit to bulgey and needs to be bumped down a bit.

@Versa I'll consider that. Also little tip, if you're gonna write a lot you can split paragraphs with a dot

@MintLynx love your builds! from each vehicle I have downloaded, all i can say is wow. I have one request for a future car build. a 1999 Toyota Tercel. I know it may not seem like much, but I own one and it was quite an adventure getting "her" back. About a year ago, my nan was diagnosed with lung cancer, and by the time we found out, it was too late. about five months before she passed, she started talking about when she was young. one of the things she brought up was her 1995 toyta tercel. It was the dx model, and she said that it was "cute and zippy." She kept talking about her old days, and eventually, she said that she'd really like to see that old car again. (she sold it because she was diagnosed with epilepsy, and the doctor said no to driving) so i brougt it upon myself to find that car again. She said that she'd old it to my uncle, and I asked him about it. he said he'd sold it to his old co-worker, so i asked his old co-worked about it. he still had it, which made me laugh cuz i figured it was probably on the verge of blowing one of the cylinders out. I asked him about how much he'd sell it to me for, and he said $300. so it was a quick sweep, and I got the tercel ready to show to my nan. I brought it to my nearest Toyota dealer, and they said it wouldn't be worth the fix. I told them about the history, and offered them more then they were asking. I got the car back a while later, and brought it to my nans elder-home. (she called it a bootcamp) She started crying because she really regretted selling it. I kept it with me, and on her last day, that Tercel was the car I drove to the hospital in to see her before she passed. I still kept it the same red, and it stays in my garage. Anyways, that's the backstory (kinda rambled. I'm bored in quarantine and i just work from home. yay.) I tried building it myself and i've put multiple months into it. still looks like trash, and I can't get it to drive without doing barrel rolls when i try to turn at the slightest angle. never mind the crap suspension. I've tried and given up on the car. I saw your builds and downloaded a whole bunch. they're all great and I was wondering if you could build a Tercel for me because i've put multiple hours into it, and I honestly can't do it anymore without wanting to flip my desk. Thank you, and cheers!

@Hachiroku208 I'm thinking of doing the initial D car at some point. It is an 80's Japanese car after all so it would fit in well with the current route I'm taking with car building.

@Bird6369 I'm generally a fan of machines that do cool and interesting things, cars fall into that category. My knowledge on them is about above average I think though I'm no engineer.

@Bird6369 If I wanna test my ability to make a body shape I could attempt it, we'll see with time.

@Bird6369 Very good question! The way I've adjusted this system is based on each Gear's Maximum speed and the Acceleration it takes to get to that speed. Here is the FT Edensk developed so I can show what is to be adjusted
    .
    (SelectedWeapon="Gear1" ? clamp01(-pow(((7.7-GS)/12.7),2)+.4) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear2" ? clamp01(-pow(((16.75-GS)/19.5),2)+.2) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear3" ? clamp01(-pow(((27.55-GS)/27.55),2)+.15) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear4" ? clamp01(-pow(((41-GS)/36),2)+.1) : (SelectedWeapon="Gear5" ? clamp01(-pow(((56.5-GS)/46.5),2)+.06) : (SelectedWeapon="Reverse" ? clamp01(-pow(((7.7+GS)/12.7),2)+.95) * -1 : 0)))))) * Throttle
    .
As can be seen the FT is split into values determined by each gear. Adjusting the numbers in each gear is done to change its effects. The numbers next to -pow (such as. 7.7-GS)/12.7) I've generally adjusted to determine the gear's maximum speed, while the number next to the + is used to adjust the acceleration. Note that these two can affect eachother so some precise adjustment and trial and error is generally needed, particularly if you're going for specific values in acceleration and max speed for each gear.
    .
Generally, low gears have higher acceleration but lower top speed, high gears have vice versa. Progressing through the gears involves going from Low Top speed, high Acceleration gears to High Top Speed low Acceleration gears. The * -1 reverses the entire input for the Reverse gear thus allowing it to function as such.
    .
For making adjustments I highly recommend copying the FT and putting it in a word doc. It'll make adjustments easier, allowing you to see the whole FT and copy-paste it into the engine's input.
