Gyrodope concept + challenge entry
Edit: As of beta 1.8.1, the Gyrodope now flies as-designed and without constant yawing!
My submission for DerekSP’s “No Fuel Challenge!”. I believe This is a new propulsion technique, which I dubbed the “Gyrodope”; it consists of a gyroscope mounted onto a rotating plate that interacts with a max friction sphere, which is connected to a propeller.
Precaution:
The aircraft has an unexplainable tendency to pull to the left. During startup be sure to yaw fully to the right to compensate.
Usage instructions:
1. Set VTOL to just below the middle-bottom notch and full throttle.
2. At ~40 MPH set VTOL to barely above the last notch, and ~50 MPH rotate. Gear is a.g. 1 (note reducing throttle while active will extend)
3. Try to keep airspeed above 65 MPH, climb will be somewhat slow.
4. Admire the Gyrodopes.
I’d like to credit FastDan for the XML gyros, without them I think there would be a big performance loss.

@MarshallLewisAerospace , appears so! Now i’m getting ideas for a later build...
This is very fun! It apparently works as a submarine too...
Wow, nice.
First one of these fuelless planes that I saw that actually flys
@Airdude Np!
Thank you, @sexylips35 !
Nice!
