The Su-15 was a dedicated interceptor that rarely strayed beyond the borders of the Soviet Union, remaining firmly behind the "Iron Curtain". It gained international notoriety when one shot down KAL Flight 007 in 1983, one of the deadliest incidents of the Cold War.
