Sidewinder Missile

I made this as a little side project after thinking up the idea of using the latitude and longitude from a flight computer to calculate missile trajectories.

How to Operate

1. Activate 3 to arm weapons

2. Select "Guardian"

3. FireWeapons to launch missile (you may have to wait for half a second after arming weapons to fire, this is because of the functional missile bay)

4. On the center MFD, the Ld and Rd gauges indicate the progress of the left and right missiles, respectively (100 is launch distance, 0 is at the target)

Tips for Most Effective Usage

  • This missile uses proportional navigation, so leading a target before firing will greatly improve hit probability
  • Two yellow indicator lights in the cockpit will light up when the target is within the optimal launch angle (~25°), although the missile can be fired outside these angles
  • The plane this missile is on is super-maneuverable, so limit launch AoA to ~20° max
  • The missile works at all ranges, but be aware that too short of a range may cause the missile to overshoot and stop tracking

    - The missile works off of targeting position, so it will not provide any warning indicators to the target, but it will also not work if the target is de-selected

The Plane Itself

The plane is from GuyFolk's amazing F-22 Raptor, but the camo and cockpit was made by me, so it has some quirks. The plane isn't the focus of this post, but it's instructions can be found in-game

(Technically I didn't ask GuyFolk to use his F-22 in this, but I ended up building the missile on his plane, so please don't sue me)

If you want to put this on your own plane, you have to copy all the variables from "TLong" to "FlatDist", which is a hassle so I don't really recommend it. Also, you can't make a sub assembly of something that has a flight computer in it, so you'd have to remove that, then copy the variables onto one with your plane
