Schneider Trophy Challenge (closed)
(Update)
The competition is officially closed. While there weren't as many entries as I'd hoped, we did get some great models for this competition. Sadly, not enough to include an honorable mentions section.
Here are the winners for the Schneider Trophy Challenge:
1st: PlanesOfOld
2nd: Wormforce
3rd abledbody
Thanks to all who participated! See you in the next challenge!
(Update: Since we may have enough potential contestants, the due date has been set as July 10th. Good luck everyone!)
Time for a new challenge. This one is design based.
"The Coupe d'Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider, commonly called the Schneider Trophy or Schneider Prize (sometimes it is incorrectly referred to as the Schneider Cup, which is entirely different prize), was a trophy awarded annually to the winner of a race for seaplanes and flying boats. The Schneider Trophy is now held at the Science Museum, South Kensington, London."
-Wikipedia
The competition is simple. Build a replica of any plane from the list found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schneider_Trophy_aircraft
Planes will be judged on design accuracy, as well as flight accuracy (maximum speed, handling, etc.)
Since this challenge is a little more design intensive than my past challenges, the rewards will be much higher:
1st place: 10 5 star ratings!
2nd place: 5 5 star ratings!
3rd place: 3 5 star ratings!
All entries that qualify will also receive a 5 star rating from me.
There will be a number of honorable mentions depending on the number of entries we get, and these will receive each an additional 5 star rating to one of their planes.
All entries MUST be posted as a successor to this plane.
Please rate to increase exposure and bring in more competitors.
I will post a due date as soon as I have enough RSVP participants to warrant this a worthwhile contest.
May the best engineer win and,
HAPPY FLYING!
