The Sukhoi T-4 (Su-100) was a Soviet hypersonic missile carrier built specifically for the X-45 “Lightning” missile system. Only one aircraft was completed, Article 101, which sits in Monino today next to its big brother, the Myasishchev M-50, and it’s cousin, the Tupolev Tu-144. Article 102 was complete by the time of cancellation in 1975, and article 103 was more or less done. Both, however, were scrapped following the cancellation of the project. The aircraft featured many breakthrough technologies; over 600 were invented specifically for this aircraft, like fly-by-wire systems, and an auto-balancing fuel tank system. Article 101 flew a total of 19 times, reaching only Mach 1.93, though if put into production it would have been able to cruise close to Mach 3 at around 70,000 feet, or 30 Km. Contrary to popular belief, the aircraft was not actually a response to the American XB-70, but to the realization of their lack of suitable anti-naval missile systems during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Eventually, the project did turn to the XB-70 as a competitor, but that project was won by Tupolev’s Tu-160. I’m incredibly proud of this aircraft, and I think it’s one of my best.

@PlanePlaneThe66373637 The original teaser for this?
One of my most upvoted comments came from the teaser
@AircraftoftheRedStar oh rip. I thought we got the size right though
The dimensions, weights, and “explosion radius” are all wrong lol.
@AsteroidAsteroidTheBook
@AircraftoftheRedStar They're still functional, I don't see much of a point in redoing them lol
I seriously need to rework those missiles of mine.
