Fuji-class guided missile cruiser

3,045 Fujisan  1.3 years ago

The Fuji-class guided missile cruisers were a class of thirty-two guided missile cruisers built initially for Japan by Enoshima Heavy Industries during the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. All thirty-two vessels were constructed in batches of four a year apart, and were part of the 'Type-1A' ship design report, combining long range with excellent firepower. In further addition, all thirty-two vessels were also capable of conducting ballistic missile defense and/or anti-supersonic bomber-operations, a role they continiue to fulfill to this day.
All 32 ships were named for, following the naming convention within the JINA, historic Japanese pre-dreadnought battleships and/or cruisers operated by the Naval Arm's predecessor, the Imperial Japanese Navy, or otherwise following within the naming conventions of the IJN, with the first four ships being the Fuji, Shikishima, Hatsuse, and Asashi.
Export models were also authorized for Edelweiss and Dresia, with a total of 32 ships exported. Swann has also ordered thirty vessels to be operated as the Lake Swann-class cruisers.
The Navy of the Republic of Vietnam currently operates 4 vessels as the Sài Gòn-class cruisers.
