He-16 Pipit
The Heinkel He-16 Pipit is a fictional ground attack biplane. Produced in 1936 through 1939, the Pipit saw action in the Spanish Civil War, as well as in the early stages of World War Two in both Europe and Asia. The aircraft, which featured four rockets and one 250 pound bomb, was held in high regard by the pilots who flew it. Finding particular sucess as a night fighter/attacker, the majority of the He-16s were painted in night camoflauge and equiped with dive brakes, enabling the plane to slow to 60 miles per hour before dropping its bomb. However, these pros were quickly outfavoured by the cons after numerous planes were lost due to the plane flipping over on touch down. This led to the Pipit being subject to a partial re-design of the undercarrage. This led to a safer flight for the pilots of the Luftwaffe, who favoured it over the He-51 and Hs-123 in both the fighter and ground attack roles.
