The DC-10 is a three engine medium to long range wide body passenger aircraft developed by Douglas Corporation (later merged into McDonald Douglas Corporation, abbreviated as McDonnell Douglas) in response to the needs of American aviation. It was also used for military purposes and has now been discontinued. The DC-10 has less passenger capacity than the B747 and has a range similar to that of the Boeing 747. It can operate routes across the United States and international routes across the ocean. The development plan was launched after the merger of Douglas and McDonald's in 1967.
