FD-23 Orion
The FD-23 Orion (mod.6a), is a third generation, delta wing interceptor operated exclusively by the Isles Defence Force, of Wright Island.
Boasting a state of the art cockpit and an internal weapons bay, the Orion could easily exceed Mach 2 at 35,000ft and can maintain supersonic speed at sea level.
Speeds of 750 TAS or more at sea level is dangerous however as the low drag tail lacks lateral stability within these parameters.
First flying in April of 1959, the Orion was noted for its lack of dogfighting ability, relying on ground control to position the aircraft in a safe and advantageous position.
Weaponry:
4x Robin Mk.1 SARH Air to Air Missile.
Favoured for its slimmer profile, the Robin only has a 20km range but it makes up for this in relatively high off boresight capabilities and combined 20g maneuverability this missile is lethal in all envelopes of flight, the only exception being off the rail performance, as the motor is at a set delay to allow separation.
4x Swallow Mk.1 ARH Air to Air Missile.
The Swallow is a much larger missile, the benefit being that it is able to accommodate its own radar seeker. Being a much faster missile, it is most useful at longer ranges, up to 120km with 15g maneuverability.
Originally developed for the weapons bay of the XFD-23 Orion in 1959, this parallel project would spawn many variations with the latest variant rumoured to be a 2 stage, Nuclear Air to Air Missile, to combat possible bomber formations flying from Snowstone.
