Boeing 777-200ER Vietnam Airlines(VN-A141)
Boeing 777 of Vietnam Airlines
Along with the development of the aircraft fleet using Western technology since 1993 and the process of normalizing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US, Vietnamese aviation has cooperated closely with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Ky. Not only related to leasing, purchasing, and operating aircraft, the cooperation is also a basis for Vietnam Airlines to research and improve its ability to master aircraft and engine maintenance technology.
Vietnam Airlines leased the first two Boeing 767 aircraft from Ansett, Australia in 1992, opening the door to operating aircraft from the US aircraft manufacturer. The Boeing 767 fleet increased to 7 aircraft in 2006, serving domestic and international routes to France, Germany, Russia, Australia, and Japan.
After having medium-range aircraft, Vietnam Airlines determined that it needed to supplement its fleet of long-range aircraft. In April 2003, Vietnam Airlines received and put into operation the first wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft. Previously, in order to have a team of pilots to control this aircraft, since 2003, with the help of Boeing, Vietnam Airlines sent 6 delegations to the US and China to learn how to convert the B777 aircraft.
VNA representative said that since April 2003, the airline began receiving and putting into operation the first Boeing 777 aircraft of the 777-200ER series, also the most modern wide-body aircraft. With 1,460 aircraft shipped by the end of 2016, the Boeing 777 is one of Boeing's best-selling aircraft in history.
Therefore, this aircraft line is an important choice of VNA in developing strategic medium, long-haul and transcontinental flights to have enough strength to fly directly to Europe at that time connecting Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City with the capital Paris (France). Previously, the route from Vietnam to/from France had a stop in Dubai.
Following the initial success, the airline then "boldly" opened consecutive direct flights to Russia (2004), Germany (2005), England (2011) all of which were exploited by this aircraft line from the beginning.
Notably, since receiving the aircraft, the Boeing 777 fleet has also "donned" a new color with the airline's brand image being converted from a stork wing to a golden lotus, associated with a typical red ao dai of the female next row.
To date, this fleet has conducted nearly 101,000 safe flights, transporting nearly 22.9 million passengers, on 16 international routes to 7 countries (France, Russia, Germany, UK, Australia, Japan, Korea) and domestic routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Notably, during nearly 15 years of operation, the fleet has not recorded any accidents, contributing to 20 years of flight safety for the National Airline.
Mr. Phan Xuan Duc - Deputy General Director of VNA said that the operation of the Boeing 777-200ER fleet since 2003 has helped VNA become one of the first airlines in the region to own the most modern long-range Boeing wide-body fleet at that time.
"The fleet has successfully completed the historic mission of the National Airline, creating the most outstanding marks in a long development period over the past 15 years" - Mr. Duc shared.

The first 777-200ER aircraft that Vietnam Airlines received, numbered VN-A141, was leased from ILFC.
