English Electric made the Canberra B1 medium bomber in the late 1940's and early 50's, it flew higher and faster than the four engine bombers in operation at the time and until the arrival of the U2 spy plane ran many covert missions over the edge of the iron curtain. The Canberra was a huge export success and has served in most parts of the western world over the past sixty years.
