Sopwith triplane 1916
A simple sopwith tripe to show that you can make oldies with the new blocks too! She's not much of a flyer but a complete visual replica, unfortunately I could not write "DIXIE II" on her front cowling, or put a dot on her white tail, also.. Word of warning don't try and do aerobatics or you will spin out and crash. Basicly just for show, and is a model :) this is my favorite ww1 era plane and in real life she flies beautifly and if you want to see one, they have a "late production" (a replica that is basicly the real thing) at the shuttleworth collection, unfortunately it crashed into a gate on a landing and stuck its nose into the ground, breaking about 50 parts of the leading edges of the wing, prop, coweling, engine and canvas... The pilot was ok, and they are (citation needed) still fixing her. But when she has been fixed they basicly can do the ww1 equivalent of a vertical S in the plane.. (A half roll??)

6,432 Me600Can I reveal the secret about planes of old?9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustries@Jeffernan no deadweight in beta so I couldn't really get it to work :( the real one was unstable and was hard to fly but not as hard as this lol, but I like it cause it's a challenge :) I successfully took off and landed the other day and i was like hallelujah!9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustriesNice thx :) I'm gonna keep the plane for about 5 days and gradually modify it to get the best plane, and I'll release three versions I think I will keep yours stock and make it the Night-fighter, shorten the nose and part clip some ballast in to counteract the loss of weight in the front and make that a fighter and basicly make a heavyweight ground attack one! I just need someone to downmod the engines so it goes 150 ish mph slower and then edit it so it has the same performance and BINGO! Thx a lot m8 cheerybye @VikDesigns9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustriesI am perfectly capable of keeping this plane in level flight, I've held back uploading it because generally people expect something to fly like one of your epic planes. Unfortunately in 1915 and 1916 sop with engineers had limited resources and technology to make aeroplanes. Triplane design is generally unstable unless you balence it out by having a hint heavy engine (like the real one) ritht in the nose. They were also made of fabric and wood making the engine the COM unfortunately I was making this for visual experimentation and honestly didn't design it with any of that in mind. So anyways what you have here is a plane that can only be flown by the best of the best. I do have to admit that I haven't successfully landed it yet... And have had a total of 12 crashes where the plane was unflyable afterwards and considerably more minor incidents but I've managed to take off and keep her level by use of control surfaces for 5 minuets I am not the best of pilots and would expect someone as experienced as yourself to be able to fly the ruddy thing! (:D this isn't a rant it's a statement) @VikDesigns9.2 years ago

9,911 Nick7777@XVIindustries lol... I might be an awsome virtual pilot.. Your plane is fun to handle, this is a real challenge.. And yes, by piloting your triplane we feel like last century test pilots trying to tame there incredible flying machines.. Very fun.9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustries@Rohan also I've tried a TON to make the front seem like it's made of lead but lol with triplanes it's pretty useless trying it's probably why they have sutch high fatality rates...9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustries^^ possible, but leave it to your own mind. @Rohan9.2 years ago

37.2k RohanIt looks good. Try upping the HP on the engine and add fuel in the front wings, or a modded fuel tank. @XVIindustries9.2 years ago
-
6,499 XVIindustries@Rohan I did say^^ but you are quite right, handling is awful... I haven't gotten used to the structural panels so used structural wings for the bottoms instead. Also triplane configuration is generally a bad idea unless you have a giant engine in the front (real one had a really heavy one) and the rest of the plane made of fabric. Unfortunately I can't do that and have ended up with this. A model, basicly built for testing weather old planes looked good with these new-fangled fuselage blocks.9.2 years ago
-
37.2k RohanI'll give you a 3. Handling is horrible because the center of lift is on the center of mass. The CoL should be behind the CoM.9.2 years ago

6,499 XVIindustries@Nick7777 u know in the era this flew pilots were treated like footballers are now, they were treated like gods because they had to be so skilled flying planes that had worse handling no than this! If you can fly this properly then you are an awesome pilot!9.2 years ago

9,911 Nick7777Nice looking but really hard to handle..9.2 years ago
