North American P-51D Mustang
"When I saw Mustangs over Berlin, I knew the jig was up."
-Reichsmarshall Hermann Goring, Luftwaffe.
Credit to DuckMintNewProfile for the basic cockpit shape and the main gear, which I have adapted to this aricraft. A (roughly) scale model of the P-51D Mustang. The P-51 Mustang is an American piston-engine fighter aircraft designed by North American Aviation. The P-51, with its long range and comparable performance to the Bf 109 and Fw 190 series, provided effective escort to the B-17 formations. It's good performance, combined with numerical superiority and pilot proficiency, shattered the Luftwaffe's fighter force. Postwar, they were replaced as fighters by jet aircraft, although many served as ground attack aircraft well into the 1970s. The last air force to retire them was the Dominican Air Force in 1984. This particular example was operated by the Paternian Air Force, who employed them as fighter-bombers alongside the Pummeler.
