When the Redsand Republic staved off invasion from the Arashi Kingdom in 2217, the Webster Model W-392(V) was the aircraft that heeded the call of duty. The bulk of the Republican Air Force consisted of licensed produced FF.13 type fighter craft, obtained from the Falkenberg Kingdom. This humble and heavy clunker of a biplane was adopted in 2215 after relations with the Arashi Kingdom worsened after disputes over the formerly Zarastillan Empire territories of the Islas de Nieve. The Islands had both Republican and Arashi nationals residing in its many towns, as well as a large amount of the Redsand diaspora who had migrated in the depression following the Great Regional Wars.

Early pioneers of the naval aircraft carrier, the Republic had the largest carrier fleet in the world in 2212, and despite being made of many conversion ships, proved to be quite a potent force.

When war broke out, 4 Naval Squadrons had the type in service, they would end up seeing extensive use in all manners of combat, with the 392 proving to be a very versatile general-purpose aircraft, capable of acting as a torpedo-fighter (a concept explored by the post-war Republican Navy), and with a bomb load capacity of 500 lb, a very effective fighter bomber. The craft did have it's drawbacks however, despite being powered by the Brumington-Wallace Willow 750 hp engine, the craft only averaged around ~155 mph at sea level, due in part to its sheer size and lack of streamlining. Despite this, the type was well liked for its stability, durability, high bomb load, and ease of flight. The 392 would serve on through what the Republicans eventually called the First Arashi War, fighting its way to victory in late 2218, after the destruction of the Arashi Navy in the Battle of the Tenavega Sea.

The 392 eventually saw a rekindling in service in the mid 2220s, serving as a night harasser craft and ground attacker for the Republic and it's allies, during the Second Arashi War.
