Fw-190D "Long-nose Dora"

82.8k SimplyPlain  3.0 years ago

Dora, Anton's youngest sister

For some info on the Focke-Wulf Fw-190's history, and on the build in general, you can check my Fw-190A-8 at this page

The Fw-190A ("Anton") series were some of the best fighter planes of WW2... but the later Fw-190D ("Dora") models were -according to their pilots- the best prop-driven fighter planes of the luftwaffe, and more than a match for the P-51D Mustang.

Fw-190D's are easy to recognize; instead of the big radial engine of the earlier models, the Dora's sported a Jumo 213A 12-cylinder in line liquid-cooled engine... which resulted in an entirely different nose section (the "long nose", which became the plane's nickname), compensated by a longer tail section. It actually started to look much like the later Ta-152, with which it shares part of the airframe.

This build is actually something of a mongrel -essentially an Fw-190D-9 of JG 301, but with the armament of the (later) D-11 version; two MG-151 20mm cannon in the wing roots, two MK-108 30mm cannon ("jackhammers") in the wings, and no more MG-131's in the nose.

Controls are the same as for my A-series, with one small difference: I dropped the AG5 for the engine contact -a useless feature, anyway... I just want to fly this thing :p

ENJOY!

@bruhmemefy it has cannon (four of them, 20 and 30 mm) -no MG's. So you have to select the right weapon first (MG-151 or MK-108) before you can fire it.

Why does the propeller dissappear [like just detaches itself from the plane and not producing thrust] after like 30 seconds of flying

As a fellow il-2 pilot this is my favorite plane to fly. (The d9 not the d11 but close enough) I didn’t read the description at first and really critiqued this plane for having such weird gun placement only to find out it was a d11. I was not disappointed! Enjoyed flying this in more simple planes friendly environment. Great attention to detail in the cockpit, great immersion in it for SP level. This should be a very fun vr plane as it can punish its user but still beginner friendly. As I’ve said this plane is great for beginners through the roll might be just a little too much. Lots of ammo is what gets this plane above its competitors and the A variants. I’m honestly more of a bubble canopy person but still was surprised by the FOV in this cockpit. Overall an awesome replica even through I enjoy tightly compacted 20mm & 13mm more. One thing I would recommend is bumping the 20mm fire rate a bit up to around 700 rpm like the real MG 151 had. I also believe the mk 108 fired at very quick bursts or ~650rpm. Still a solid 10/10 and my favorite plane type ever. Thank you
Edit 1: not a big deal but in the real counterpart the planes engine would always remain on 5% throttle when idle since the throttle was also the fuel cutoff. I don’t think there is any way in sp to make it that the throttle stays at 5% when you start but would be very immersive if could be replicated in any way.

This and the Anton are great. In my opinion you make some of the best WWII plane replica's. Cheers
