The XP-70 was an experimental Fighter/CAS aircraft created in 1943 by Alexander Kartveli. The XP-70 was the first, and only aircraft to be powered by the also experimental Wright R-4090-31 Radial engine. When it entered production in early 1945, it was deployed to the pacific theater, where it didn’t end up getting a kill before Japan surrendered, ending World War II. After this, it saw conflict in the Korean War, and in Vietnam. It was retired in 1969, making it the longest surviving aircraft from World War II. Many are in preservation today, as well as ~6 Airworthy aircraft.
