Project P2 Submarine
Project P-2
Designed just as the Cold War started, Project P-2 was a design study for the next generation of Heavy submarines for the Soviet Union. Built based on technology from captured Type 21 U-boats and to be equipped with captured V1 and V2 missiles, it was an ambitious design which ultimately never came to fruition.
Check out this article on Hi Sutton for the full details.
Features:
- Fully working hydroplanes and rudder (pitch and yaw)
- Simulated Ballast Control
- Unlimited Dive
- Near 1:1 Scale
- 1 57mm double mount gun
- 1 25mm quad AAA gun
- 1 R-1 Scunner Ballistic Missile
- 1 Swallow-10HN Cruise Missile
- 1 Mini-Submarine
Instructions:
Submarine Operation
1)Pitch for Pitch Control
2)Roll for steering (Yaw)
3)VTOL for ballast control
4)VTOL up +AG8 for Surface Running mode (to lock the Ballast upward, disable bow planes, and free up VTOL for the guns)
Gun Operation
1)Surface and set Surface Running mode.
2)AG1 for 57mm
3)AG2 for 25mm
4)VTOL and TRIM to aim
Ballistic Missile Launch and Operation
1)Surface and set Surface Running mode.
2)Press AG3, wait for launch
3)Use Pitch and Yaw for steering the missile.
Note: Watch out for a physics glitch in flight, it makes the missile jitter and boosts the speed by a lot though without making it uncontrollable.
Cruise Missile Launch and Operation
1)Surface and set Surface Running mode.
2)Press AG4, wait for launch
3)Use Pitch and Yaw for Steering.
Mini Sub Operation
1)Submerge
2)Press AG5 (note: Disabling diving planes/pitch on the main sub with AG8 recommended)
2)Pitch for pitch, Yaw for Steering, Throttle as normal.
Here it is my most heavily armed submarine to date! Complete with Deck Guns, Ballistic Missile, Cruise Missile, and a Minisub!
I enjoyed building the body of this thing. It was yet another case where I was looking at the schematics and wondering "How am I gonna put this together" then find putting it together far less daunting in practice. The shape of the hull mandated building in a manner other than the usual start with a single circular fuselage as a start. I think I've pulled off the shape pretty well minor graphical glitches notwithstanding.
The Guns fortunately went smoothly, without any major snags or issues! Couldn't get recoil on the 57's though, didn't seem to work properly on them.
The Ballistic Missile gave me a lotta trouble, but I managed to make it work with the caviat of that glitch. It was a lotta trouble making it work without hindering the functionality of the submarine. Despite the problems, I managed!
The Cruise missile on the other hand was far less tempermental in getting it to work, unlike other cruise missiles I've made it didn't start freaking out at first (or ever!). The Minisub hit a few snags but came together pretty quickly.
Overall this was quite the enjoyable build to put together! And I'm happy with how it turned out. Hope you all are as well!

Damn. One ambitious project this would have been, nicely recreated once again!
This... is awesome! Dude the quality of your stuff is increasing pretty much exponentially!
Over the past couple weeks you’ve singlehandedly reignited my love for submarines with your awesome free diving builds
@MintLynx thx, good job
A fascinating design you’ve brought to life here! The multiple hull design reminds me a bit of the much later Typhoon class, but for its time this one is fascinatingly ambitious. Excellent work on recreating this one!
GOOD 👍👍

Surprise @lastv801! I uploaded it today! :D
Amazing Details, Nice Control, I Love It
Damn this is utterly incredible. Wonderfully made!
