They were intended to replace the 43 year old Hierarchie von Equestria Class of the Royal Equestrian Navy. Their main role still the same, to be able to carry out multi-mission function especially in escorts, annihilation missions and Flagship Duties.
Development
The 43 Year old Hierarchie von Equestria Class cruisers have been the main flagship of the Royal Equestrian Navy and was almost present on all events that the Navy participated. Due to their old age, they weren't able to keep up with the new technologies being presented on other navies' new warships. Personally demanded by the Prime Minister and the Monarch itself, The Navy was able to gain authorization to design and construct new warships of the class.
Catherine the Great Class was very different from the previous Hierarchie von Equestria Class as they feature more offensive and defensive weapons, plus they were fitted with new generators. The main key difference between the two class are it's Hull and Supers Structure, Catherine the Great Class had lesser stealth capabilities than it's predecessor but was intended by the government itself.
Cruisers have been in service for long service in the past, only a few nations operate them and most of them were economically powerful. In Great Country Modern Naval Doctrine, Cruisers were the All-around warship of the fleet with their ability to operate for Defensive and Offensive missions. They were maneuverable but wasn't the same maneuverability like their smaller counterparts, The Destroyers. In the doctrine, It is a requirement for a Cruiser to have an in-built Helipad and Hangar with at least one or two helicopters present although some navies' designed their Cruisers that can carry three helicopters. Because of this, confusion was made between Cruisers and Battlecruisers, with the Battlecruisers generic aircraft carried is three to five.
