Designed as a successor to the rugged and reliable Kubelwagen, the Drehwagen had a higher top speed, a defensive armament, and more. It could comfortably seat up to eight people inside; The driver, the co-driver/forward machine gunner, the rear machine gunner, two people in the second row seat, and three more additional troops in the rear section. The defensive armament on the Drehwagen repelled most attackers with the massive amounts of fire it could lay down. The armor plating on the car was also good. It had 105mm of frontal armor (effective thickness with sloping), 95mm on the doors (it was closer to 100mm where the fuel tank was, which was in between the rows of seats), and 40mm at the rear. There were also two racks on the sides of the car to allow for more cargo to be carried. The Drehwagen (which translates to Speed Wagon), as the name suggests, was fast and nimble, and the car was able to evade most attacks with ease. Only around 130 Drehwagens were built before the Germans surrendered.
