BINAC FAR.2

135 JNC123QTR  4.0 years ago

The BINAC FAR.2 was designed in the 1970s as a carrier borne heavy sea attack aircraft and low speed 'missile truck' interceptor for the Bird Islands and West Karnan Navies. It has a mixed propulsion system, comprised of two small turbojets and a pusher turboprop. The aircraft is equipped with reinforced landing gear, a unique double arrestor system and parachutes for carrier landings. It also has a large spin recovery parachute to use in case of emergencies. It has several wing and fuselage hardpoints for weapons and fuel, all equipped with an emergency dump system. An floatplane variant was also developed. Later, an EWR package was offered as well. The most distinctive weapon on the standard FAR.2 is the tank like cannon on the nose, above and behind the radar. This is replaced with a large antenna on EWR models.

The FAR.2 saw very little carrier use with both nations. Changing priorities meant foreign VTOL and multirole aircraft and would take its role. Nevertheless the two countries' air forces made good use of them in anti-tank roles. The FAR.2 remains in service. West Karna still operates the plane in an attack role, while the Bird Islands only operates the EWR variant. The Bird Islands is also the only remaining user of the float version.

This plane is a land/carrier based West Karnan attack model.
