The la-9 fighter is the last generation of single seat piston fighter developed on the basis of the la-7 fighter, which was started in mid-1944 by the lavochekin Design Bureau of the Soviet Union before the end of the Second World War. The assembly of the prototype was arranged in the 21st factory of Gorky (now renamed lower novogrod city). The prototype without any armed la-9 (code name of the design bureau is la-130) first flew on June 16, 1946, put into mass production in November 1946, and began to equip the army in 1947.
