History: In 1993, Saab designed a small, nimble, fighter that could serve as an airbase defense fighter or as an interceptor for low-flying bombers. It sat one pilot in a rather spacious cockpit. The aircraft went into service on March 26, 1997, with Finland being the first country to recieve the type. The Finnish Air Force (FAF) used the aircraft until 2015 when the aircraft were replaced and converted into two-seat trainers.
